Safeguarding of Children & Young People – Level 3 (VTQ)

All organisations that work with or come into contact with children should have safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure that every child, regardless of their age, gender, religion or ethnicity, can be protected from harm.

This course is aimed at training individuals and managers who work with children to ensure they know how to identify and report possible cases of abuse and neglect. Children are at risk in many environments and this course will ensure you gain a better understanding of the problem, avoiding possible situations and will give you the confidence in dealing with abuse and neglect once identified.

Additionally, this course will cover content relating to protecting children from abuse and maltreatment, preventing harm to children’s health or development, ensuring children grow up with the provision of safe and effective care and taking action to enable all children and young
people have the best outcomes.

This course covers the basics to ensure that staff, families or individuals are able to deal with this sensitive subject.

The content of this and all our courses has been independently certified as conforming to universally accepted Continuous Professional Development (CPD) guidelines and come with a Certified CPD Statement as well as the Certificate.

Understand current legislation regarding safeguarding & protection of children and young people.
Understand legislation and safeguarding Acts
Recognise statutory assessments required for each Act
Recognise the role of welfare services and the treatment/support available
Understand other legislation, policies, procedures and guidance regarding safeguarding and
protection of children and young people.
Understanding the law and how each policy affects a person or organisation
Recognise how each policy is governed
Recognise the levels of abuse through statistics.
Become acquainted with UK statistics for physical abuse
Recognise the statistics associated with emotional abuse in the UK
Recognise and understand the different types of abuse, their signs, symptoms and indicators. LO4
Learn how to recognise unusual behaviour
Recognise accidental injuries and how to communicate effectively
Know different types of abuse that leads to a safeguarding concern
How to recognise signs, indicators and symptoms
Identify the symptoms of physical abuse
Recognise sexual abuse, including grooming, exploitation and other behaviour
Understand the severity of emotional and psychological abuse
Identify common causes of neglect
Understanding how to recognise a case of domestic abuse
List types of bullying
Recognising the severity of female genital mutilation
Gain an awareness of child trafficking and modern slavery
Know how to discern a case of radicalisation
Understanding the legal aspect and severity of forced marriage
Understand the implications for professionals including the ‘Gillick’ competency and ‘Fraser’
guidelines
Understand modern-day cases and what is legal under current guidelines
Recognise implications for professionals and how the Fraser guidelines are applied
How is Gillick competency assessed
Know who is involved in partnership working.
Identify the roles and responsibilities of partnerships working together

Successful candidates will be awarded the Safeguarding of Children & Young People LEVEL3 certificate valid for 3 years.

Accreditation is provided by Omni Training Group Ltd. The training is quality assured by ProTrainings Accreditation Scheme.

• Mandatory re-qualification training every three years by re-taking this course
